Fremantle port is situated at the mouth of the Swan River which has three main tributaries, the Avon, The Canning and the Helena.
The river rises to the Southwest of Perth and flows through the city before reaching Fremantle. Fremantle Port was built in the 1890’s with the limestone reef blocking the mouth of the river removed at the same time to allow ships to enter the port.
If you have time whilst docked in Fremantle it is well worth visiting Rottnest Island. Located just 11 miles from the coast it is easily assessable from the port and provides a fantastic adventure for all the family. Diving and Cray fishing are popular activities on the island and a snorkel trail at Parker Point provides specially made information plaques underneath the water giving facts and figures relating to the native marine creatures.
