Mazatlan is right below the Tropic of Cancer, which puts it at the same latitude as Honolulu. Mazatlan is also known as the “Pearl of the Pacific,” and is Mexico’s largest commercial port. The harbour in Mazatlan is the meeting point for the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, this creates one of the greatest natural fish traps in the world, which explains why sports fishing is one of Mazatlan’s favourite pastimes. El Rosario, a small town about 50 miles south of Mazatlan, is famous for the altar in the town church which is said to be worth over a million dollars. The Lighthouse, El Faro, first shone its brilliant light in mid-1879 and it is one of the tallest natural lighthouses in the World. The only problem in Mazatlan is figuring out how to fit in all of the fun things to do, from fishing, sailing, surfing, parasailing and kayaking to shopping, fine dining and dancing, Mazatlan provides something for everyone to enjoy.
