Located in Southern Ukraine, Odessa is a large seaport located on the northwest shore of the black sea. There are several interesting buildings in Odessa including the Potemkin Steps, Vorontsov’s Palace and Odessa Opera and Ballet Centre. Odessa’s most iconic symbol, the Potemkin Steps is a vast staircase that has the appearance of a pyramid from the bottom. The original 200 steps were designed by Italian architect Francesco Boffo. The Stairs are best remembered for a starring role in Sergei Eisenstein’s film The Battleship Potemkin.
A must see building is the Odessa Opera and Ballet theater which was finished in 1887. Hopefully you will be lucky enough to take a look around inside and watch one of the amazing performances which are performed regularly.
